Difficult to pinpoint a region of origin for cheese fondue. However it seems clear that Switzerland and maybe
the neighbouring french regions delimit its origin.
Moreover, fondues have names such as fondue neuchateloise,
fondue fribourgeoise, fondue savoyarde, etc., all french speaking regions of western Switzerland and nearby France.
There are 2 aspects of a good fondue that seem to go together, mountain and cheese.
In our regions, these two elements are almost intermixed, since cheese is either made on mountain pastures in order to
conserve the milk from the cows spending the summer there, either in close-by valleys in cases when the milk can be brought down there.
All indications are thus of a Swiss origin for cheese fondue.
